Welcome to BDLC′s home on the web!
This website is for Westfield High School Lacrosse, as well as the BDLC (Blue Devil Lacrosse Club).  BDLC is about having "more lacrosse" options for both youth and adults in the area.  Here, you'll be able to get news, information, schedules, rosters, game results, directions and much much more. Check back frequently for the latest information about our club.

For information regarding youth (3rd - 8th grade) Spring Lacrosse, visit the WLC at www.westfieldlacrosse.com.

This is a work in progress.  We are working to consolidate and replace old out-of-date websites as quickly as possible with the intent to make this an active and frequently updated source of information about Lacrosse in Westfield NJ and our immediate community.

Note that the BDLC also organizes Men's Pick-up games, weather permitting.  Since field space is at a premium and our options are limited, we will use this website to communicate latest information on schedules, fields, and playing times.

Girls Tryouts Complete
by posted 11/06/2008

Dear Parents and Players,

We are thrilled that twenty six 7th and 8th grade as well as twenty two 5th and 6th grade girls tried out for the Blue Devils Select tournament teams. It shows that there is a lot of interest in girl’s lacrosse, and that the Blue Devils Lacrosse Club (BDLC) is gaining in popularity because it offers Westfield girls a chance to learn and play at a competitive level at an affordable price. We were really impressed by the skills, enthusiasm, and great attitudes of the girls during the evaluations.

On the downside, we truly regret the fact that we are limited in our resources (especially coaches) and can only have eighteen girls on the Blue Devils Select tournament teams to maintain the high quality program we strive for. On the brighter side, we have been working closely for the past few years with the Westfield Lacrosse Club (WLC) in an effort to create more and improved opportunities for girl’s lacrosse in Westfield. We recommend that those who tried out but did not make our 7th and 8th grade team play on the WLC D (Development) Team. The D team is relatively new and is offered to provide Westfield’s experienced recreational players more competitive play in the NJJGLL recreational league. (See http://njjgll.org/rules.php#development for more information.) We hope, by working together, the girls will continue to love the sport of lacrosse, and continue to practice and improve.

Eighteen players are being invited to commit to the BDLC Spring 2009 5/6 and 7/8 Girls programs. They were selected based on evaluations that measured speed, agility, fundamental stick skills, dodging and field skills, and live game play. The timed/measured events were managed by parent coaches, and the field/game skills were assessed by our college player/coaches in an effort to be fair and unbiased. Below is a list of the US Lacrosse membership numbers of the girls that are invited to register. If you don’t remember your US Lacrosse number, you can look it up at: https://secure.uslacrosse.org/m.cfm

Our tentative spring 2009 schedule is:
  • Practices each Wednesday or Thursday night, and Saturday afternoons from mid March until the end of May.
  • Tournaments in the metro area primarily on Saturdays. Tentative dates could include April 18, 25 and May 9, 23, and 30 (depending on which tournaments are available when)
  • Last year we played at West Windsor (April 26), Lax Luau (May 4) and Moorestown (May 10).
  • We plan to play at West Windsor and Moorestown again, and hope to play at Mountain Lakes, which was cancelled last year. We are looking for a fourth tournament.
  • Possible games on Fridays and Sundays, TBD.
We are asking the selected girls to make a commitment to the Blue Devils Select coaches and team that our team will be a priority during the spring season of 2009. This means they are committed to making all the practices, games, and tournaments. We will, where feasible, attempt to schedule our practices and games around known conflicts. If a player cannot make this commitment, we would prefer to offer their spot to an alternate who can.

The cost of the Blue Devils Spring 2009 program is $350, which includes coaching, tournament fees, and a uniform. Transportation is not included.

We want to thank you for your support, and we are committed to continuing to work with the WLC to improve lacrosse for the girls of Westfield. In just a few years we have made significant progress and with your help, we hope to continue in the future. If you have questions, please contact us.

For those selected by reference to their US Lacrosse number above, to secure your spot on the Blue Devils Select tournament team, please click here and complete the on-line registration process, print and sign Commitment Understanding Letter and mail it along with a check in the amount of $350 payable to “BDLC”. Registration is not complete until payment has cleared and US Lacrosse status verified.

Please mail or drop off by November 15, 2008 to:
